When a people are divorced from their own past, they lose all sense of identity, place, and purpose. This is why the working class in the U.S. is so riven with division and mistrust: blue state vs. "red" state, rural vs. urban, black vs. white, "illegal" vs. natural born. Meanwhile; we should be asking loudly: Who fans the flames of this division, disunity, and distrust? Moreover, who profits handsomely from it? It will only be when the working class is led by those wholly dedicated to its liberation and respectful to its militant past that a long overdue class-consciouseness awakening will emerge!
