Sara, first, thanks for commenting at BlueOregon. i decided to come over & read your blog - you put quite the effort into it. i'm looking forward to reading more (the Labor Day post: excellent).

second, the "let's kill granny!" part of this comes from my Rep, Earl Blumenauer (also Congress' leading bicyclist: he rides to work at Congress everyday). here in Oregon, we have "assisted suicide" for those at the end of life and it not only has worked well for those wanting a dignified end, it's not been abused. Earl's national contribution is not even close to that: it's just paying doctors to confer with patients. but the demagogues found it very useful.

thanks for what you're doing in Illinois. hope you come by BlueOregon now & then, and my new blog: tabarnhart.net.

peace,
t.a.

A brief yet poignant and oh so very pertinent piece: a requiem for the U.$.A.'s working class. When a people are divorced from their own past, they lose all sense of identity, place, and purpose. This is why the working class in the U.S. is so riven with division and mistrust: blue state vs. "red" state, rural vs. urban, black vs. white, "illegal" vs. natural born. Meanwhile; we should be asking loudly: Who fans the flames of this division, disunity, and distrust? Moreover, who profits handsomely from it? It will only be when the working class is led by those wholly dedicated to its liberation and respectful to its militant past that a long overdue class-consciouseness awakening will emerge! Long Live the Haymarket Martyrs! Death to the exploiters!

karl liebknecht

Dear Sara,

Another excellent addition to your outstanding blog. It is my hope that those on the right may actually read, comprehend, and digest what was written and perhaps break free from their demagogue-induced delusions

karl liebknecht
